Plucking
A technique for tearing away the opponent's hands when defending against a choke in Krav Maga.
Quick Facts
Definition
Plucking is a basic defensive reflex taught against the threat of being choked from the front, back, or side. The defender forms their hands into hooks (using the thumbs and index fingers) and explosively rips the attacker's fingers or wrist away from their own neck. Speed and immediate clearing of the airway are essential. The pluck must be followed within a split second by a hard counterattack, such as a kick to the groin or a knee strike. The technique is designed to work even under intense stress.
