Definition

Bursting is a key principle in Krav Maga when defending against a firearm threat (a handgun) or a sudden close-range knife attack. Instead of retreating, the practitioner explosively and unexpectedly surges directly into the attacker's personal space (the burst). This maneuver reduces the attacker's reaction time, redirects the muzzle of the weapon or the blade to a safe zone, and simultaneously allows for strikes, weapon control (weapon retention), and its subsequent disarming. Aggressive forward movement is essential to the technique's success.
