About

Najunde makgi (낮은데막기), literally low-level block, is the general ITF taekwondo term for a block aimed at the lower part of the body. The word najunde is used in ITF terminology beyond blocks too, for instance for a low punch. Its counterpart is nopunde makgi, a high-level block; in WT taekwondo najunde makgi corresponds to the block arae makgi. The variants differ in blocking surface and hand shape: a forearm block, an outer-forearm block, a double-forearm push block, or a knife-hand block outward or inward. The forearm block is taught from white belt, 10th kup, the knife-hand block from green stripe, 7th kup. The low outer-forearm block performed in a walking stance forms the first, third, fifth, and seventh movement of the tul Chon-Ji, the first form a beginner learns.
