Definition

Roda (Portuguese for 'circle') is the essential ritual and physical stage of Capoeira. Participants form a ring, clapping and chanting traditional call-and-response songs led by the musical orchestra (Bateria, anchored by the Berimbau). Inside the Roda, two capoeiristas 'play' (jogo), exchanging kicks, acrobatics, and dodges in sync with the rhythm.
