About
Uraken uchi (裏拳打ち), literally reversed-fist strike, is delivered with the back of the fist. The fist is clenched as for a seiken strike, striking with the index and middle knuckles, only from the back. The Japan Karatedo Federation (JKF) lists the face, side and chest as targets. The variants differ in trajectory and target. Shotokan distinguishes uraken mawashi uchi, an arcing strike to the head, uraken sayu ganmen uchi to the side of the face, and uraken hizo uchi to the spleen. Kyokushin's KWF teaches five variants: a face strike, a double-sided strike, an arcing strike, a downward face strike and a spleen strike, all from 8th kyu. In kumite under WKF rules, an uchi strike to a scoring zone is scored as yuko, one point.
