About
Sempu tobi geri, literally whirling jump kick, is a Shotokan karate technique that combines three movements in a single jump: the practitioner launches into a crescent kick, mikazuki geri, spins a full 360° in the air, and finishes with a back kick, ushiro geri, before landing. According to themartialway.com.au it forms the peak of the kata Unsu's 34th movement: the jump with mikazuki geri is movement 34A, the turn 34B, the back kick 34C. The source calls it unequivocally the hardest technique in all Shotokan kata, and this technique is why Unsu, an advanced 48-movement kata, is popular in competition. It differs from the simple jump kick mae tobi geri in the turn and the combination of three kicks. We have not been able to document who named the technique.
