About
Santeul makgi (산틀막기), the mountain block, is in Kukkiwon terminology a block using the inner and outer edges of the wrist at once. Both arms block high to the sides, one from inside out and the other from outside in, and their shape resembles the character 山, mountain, which gives the block its name. The block appears in the form Keumgang for 2. dan, performed in the riding stance juchum seogi. It differs from the one-armed wesanteul makgi, which combines an upper outer block and a downward block, in that both arms work. Applications interpret it not as defense against attacks from two sides but as a hip throw or defense against a lock on both arms. It is not used in WT sparring and is applied mainly in forms.
