About

Resistência is an evasive movement (esquiva) in capoeira. It is performed from a relaxed stance: one arm guards the face, the other swings back, the knees bend, the lower back arches and the hips push forward. Throughout the movement the player keeps eye contact with the opponent. The English Wikipedia lists it together with cocorinha as one of two types of crouching evasion. Unlike cocorinha, which closes the body into a squat, resistência is a more upright evasion with an arched back. Who introduced the movement and where its name comes from, we have not been able to document.
