About
Pyeonsonkkeut jireugi (편손끝 지르기), literally a thrust with the flat fingertips, is delivered with an open hand shaped as for a knife-hand strike, only driven straight forward. The striking surface is the tips of the tightly closed fingers, with the middle finger lowered slightly to line up with the index and ring fingers. Terminology overviews distinguish three hand positions, upright, raised and inverted, for attacks at different angles. The strike appears frequently in WT poomsae and is used for board breaking, in self-defense, where it targets the sternum, eyes or throat, and in one-step sparring practice. In WT sparring, a hit to the face with the fingertips is banned and is penalized with a warning or a penalty point.
