About

Pyeonjumeok jireugi (편주먹 지르기) is a strike with the half-clenched fist, pyeonjumeok, listed by Kukkiwon terminology among the striking surfaces for fist strikes. The fingers bend at only one joint and the strike lands with the second knuckles, so force concentrates into a single point. It is therefore sharper than a full-fist strike and targets sensitive spots such as the intercostal spaces. A vertical variant exists, seun pyeonjumeok. Besides the direct strike, the half-clenched fist also serves scraping, tearing motions across the target. It is not used in WT sparring: rules for hand strikes to the torso allow only the front of a properly clenched fist, jeonggwon.
