About
Otoshi zuki, in English dropping punch, is a descending punch driven top to bottom, defending against a mae geri kick by pinning the opponent's leg while striking the shin. Unlike gyaku zuki and other horizontal punches, it goes straight down. It is performed in two ways, the right arm crossing over the left or the reverse. In the Shotokan kata Kanku Dai (JKA numbering) it is the 61st movement, near the end of the kata after mikazuki geri.
