About

Nopunde makgi (높은데막기), literally high-level block, is a general ITF taekwondo term for a block that protects the head and face. ITF terminology distinguishes three levels, nopunde high, kaunde middle, and najunde low; the word nopunde is also used for strikes, for example the high fist punch ap joomuk nopunde ap jirugi, taught at white belt. The block itself is named after the blocking surface and direction: with the outer forearm to the side or as a wedge block, with a double forearm, with the inner forearm, or with both arc hands. Its counterpart is najunde makgi, the low-level block.
