English Wikipedia lists it separately in its overview of Shotokan techniques, as jumping double front kick, distinguishing it from mae tobi geri, the single jumping front kick. In the kata Kanku Dai, the longest of the Shotokan selection kata with 65 movements, movement 57 contains, according to themartialway.com.au, a pair of jump kicks that the source calls the first practice of the difficult jumping nidan geri in a kata. According to ft-karate.com, the technique also appears in the kata Gankaku. We have not been able to document who introduced it into karate.
