About
Yoko geri keage, literally an upward side kick, is the snapping form of the side kick yoko geri. The knee rises high, pointing toward the kick, then the leg snaps out to the target with the hips following. The strike lands with the foot edge, sokuto, and the foot immediately whips back to the inside of the standing knee. The target is usually the groin or ribs. It differs from the thrusting yoko geri kekomi in that the leg does not stay at the target but withdraws at once. The British KUGB tests it at 9th kyu from kiba dachi stance.
