About
Kaunde jirugi (가운데지르기), literally a punch to the middle level, is a straight punch to the torso in ITF taekwondo. ITF terminology distinguishes three target levels: nopunde high, kaunde middle, and najunde low. The full name of the basic punch with the front fist is therefore ap joomuk kaunde ap jirugi. The trio of high, middle, and low punches is among the first attacking techniques a student learns, already at white belt, 10th kup. In WT taekwondo, the middle punch corresponds to momtong jireugi.
