About
Haiwan uke is a block with the back of the arm (haiwan), that is its outer side. The English Wikipedia lists it as square side block. The website karatespektra.cz uses instead haiwan nagashi uke, sweeping block with the back of the arm; nagashi means flowing, but combined with haiwan denotes a sweeping arm motion. In the Shotokan kata Heian Yondan (JKA listing) it is movements 1 and 2; the English Wikipedia assigns it instead to Heian Nidan.
