About
Gunnun sogi (걷는서기), literally "walking stance," is a strong ITF taekwondo stance for attack and defence, forward and back. The big toes are one and a half shoulder widths apart, the instep centres one shoulder width apart sideways. The front foot points forward, the rear foot turns out twenty-five degrees. The front knee bends above the heel, the rear leg stays straight, and the weight sits evenly on both legs. The stance is taken facing the opponent as well as turned sideways, in both attack and defence. It carries most of the movements in the first tuls: in Chon-Ji, the first form for 9th kup, the practitioner holds gunnun sogi for 17 of 19 movements, in Dan-Gun for 15 of 21. The rest belong to the L-stance, niunja sogi.
