Quick Facts
About
Calf slicer, literally calf cutter, is a compression lock in which the attacker presses a hard edge, that is the shin or arm, against the opponent's calf muscle. He inserts the arm or leg behind the opponent's knee, and by bending, the calf, or thigh, muscle is then pressed against the bone. Depending on whether the pressure targets the calf or the thigh, it is also called leg slicer or thigh crusher. It is used in judo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, catch wrestling and professional wrestling. Together with the biceps slicer it belongs among the compression locks, but it differs from it in target: the biceps slicer attacks the arm, the calf slicer the calf. A related compression lock is the judo ashi hishigi, which presses the Achilles tendon into the back of the ankle with the forearm. With forceful application, a compression lock can damage the muscle and tendons, and combined with a joint lock, even tear ligaments, cause dislocation or a fracture.
