About

Bandae jirugi (반대지르기), literally opposite punch, is in ITF taekwondo a straight punch with the fist opposite the front leg. The full name from the tul Won-Hyo is kaunde bandae ap jirugi, a front punch with the front of the fist to middle level; the practitioner stands in a right walking stance and strikes with the left fist. Terminology differs between federations. Kukkiwon and WT instead use bandae jireugi for a punch with the hand on the same side as the front leg, in karate oi zuki; in forms the rear fist pulls back to the hip while the front one strikes. In the ITF sense, bandae jirugi corresponds to the karate gyaku zuki.
