About

Ap seogi (앞서기), a walking stance, is a short natural stance with both legs straight. The front foot points straight ahead, the rear foot turned out about thirty degrees for balance. The feet are about three foot-lengths apart, and the weight is split evenly between both legs. The stance closes in on an opponent and covers retreat, and is widely used in forms and self-defence. It is required from yellow belt, 9. gup, and appears already in the first poomsae, Taegeuk Il Jang. It differs from the front stance ap kubi in its shorter length, straight legs, and even weight split.
