About

Age empi, also age enpi or age hiji uchi, in English rising elbow strike, is an elbow strike directed upward, a close-range attack aimed at the opponent's torso that generates straight-line power through body movement. The elbow points straight forward or slightly toward the body's centerline, the strike ends at shoulder level, and the fingers of the striking arm turn toward the head at the end. Unlike ushiro empi, mawashi empi and yoko empi, age empi is delivered from a natural stance upward and forward. In the Shotokan kata Gankaku (JKA numbering) it is the 38th movement.
