About Kadochnikov Systema
The Kadochnikov System is a Russian close-combat school created by Alexey Alexeevich Kadochnikov (20 July 1935 - 13 April 2019). He was neither a career soldier nor an athlete but an engineer: in 1965 he graduated by correspondence from the Krasnodar Polytechnic Institute and worked as head of a laboratory in the department of mechanics. From April 1983 he worked at the Krasnodar Higher Military Command Engineering School of Rocket Forces, and it was during this work that he developed his system — which explains its character. Kadochnikov approached combat as a problem in mechanics. Its basis is not strength or speed but a knowledge of anatomy, physics and psychology: leverage, the centre of gravity, transfer of momentum and finding a position where minimal effort suffices. From this comes the system's typical work from low positions and from the ground, which in other systems usually means defeat. Against the other major branch of Russian systema, the line of Ryabko and Vasiliev, Kadochnikov's approach is set apart by its sobriety: where the others work with breath and psychology, he explains the same things through the laws of mechanics. Some practitioners therefore regard his school as a subset of systema, others as a separate discipline. Kadochnikov wrote fourteen books, the first of them Russian Close Combat According to the System of Survival, and was awarded the Order of Honour and honorary citizenship of Krasnodar.
