Shuang chui is a pair of chui (锤) hammers; the word chui literally means hammer or mace. Each hammer is a large solid metal ball at the end of a medium-length handle, and they are almost always used as a pair. When and where the weapon arose and who became famous with it, we have not been able to establish from the sources. Handling historical pieces required considerable strength; newly made replicas tend to be hollow. Forms with this weapon have survived in some styles. A variant of the chui is the meteor hammer liuxing chui – a smaller pair of chui joined by a long rope, which is thrown out and then pulled back.
