The bâton is both a two-handed stick and a discipline of French stick-fencing, a sister to canne de combat. Compared with the one-handed canne, about 95 cm long, it is markedly longer: it measures roughly 140 cm and weighs about 400 g. The technique of the bâton derives from the movements of the medieval longsword and from longer rural walking sticks. The bâton belongs to the same family of disciplines as canne de combat and canne défense, whose modern sporting form is affiliated with the Fédération de Savate Boxe Française. When the bâton became a separate discipline, and what sequences it has, we have not been able to establish from the sources.
