Definition
Sweep (Portuguese raspagem) is a reversal of the opponent. A fighter in the bottom position, typically in guard, unbalances the opponent, turns them over and ends up on top. In Brazilian jiu-jitsu competitions under IBJJF rules, a sweep is worth two points if the fighter holds the top position for at least three seconds after the reversal. Sweeps are divided by the guard they start from. The best known include the scissor sweep and the hip bump sweep from closed guard.
