Definition
A scramble most often occurs after a failed takedown attempt, an escape from a submission, or an attempted sweep. During this phase, neither fighter has full control over the other, and both move rapidly to secure an advantage. The one who can react faster to the opponent's movement and stabilize a dominant position before the situation settles wins the exchange. A scramble demands excellent conditioning, instincts, and flexibility.
