Definition

Poomsae (or tul in ITF Taekwondo) are shadow fights against imaginary opponents. They serve to practice perfect technique, balance, breathing, and transitions between stances. Each rank has its own form, containing specific, newly introduced movements. When practicing poomsae, great emphasis is placed on rhythm, dynamics (alternating relaxation and explosive power), and returning precisely to the starting point at the end of the form (embusen).
