Definition
Muk yan jong (木人樁) is the Cantonese name, in Mandarin mu ren zhuang, literally “post of the wooden man”. It is a thick wooden pillar with three arms and one leg. In wing chun it is usually mounted on two springy slats, so it flexes slightly when struck. The practitioner uses it to train blocks, strikes, entry angles and footwork in contact with a solid “opponent”. Wing chun has its own form for the dummy.
