Definition
Mat (หมัด) means fist and punch. Muay thai uses the same punches as boxing, that is straight punches, hooks and uppercuts, and adds a strike with the back of the fist with body rotation. The verb chok (ชก) means to hit with the fist, to box. In traditional muay thai scoring, fists weigh less than kicks and knees. A fighter who wins mainly with the fists is called muay mat.
