About
Yeop seogi (in English Side Stance) is described by Kukkiwon terminology as a stance reached from naranhi seogi (parallel stance) by turning the right or left foot perpendicular to the inner edge of the other foot. The knees are straight and the width between the feet is about one foot-length. Kukkiwon accordingly distinguishes oreun seogi (right stance) and wen seogi (left stance); the Taekwondo Compendium (nbtkda.com) gives the forms oen yeop seogi and oreun yeop seogi, classes the stance among the high ones and spreads the weight evenly on both legs. In the poomsae Taegeuk Oh Jang, yeop seogi appears twice, each time with a downward strike with the bottom fist edge (me jumeok naeryeo chigi).
