About
Wi palkup taerigi, literally upward elbow strike, is in ITF Taekwon-Do an elbow strike (palkup) driven upward at the opponent's chin or lower face. It serves as an attack at close range. In the grading syllabus of the New Zealand club Tiger Taekwon-Do it is placed at blue belt level (4th gup). It differs from other elbow strikes in direction: yop palkup taerigi is aimed sideways, dwit palkup taerigi backward, and ap palkup taerigi forward. In the tul Joong-Gun (ITF) it is the 8th and 10th movement. In the 8th movement, according to the Kildare Taekwondo breakdown, it is performed with the right elbow from a walking stance after the left foot draws up to the right.
