About
Sonnal hecheo makgi (English: Knife Hand Scattered Block) is hecheo makgi performed with the knife hand (sonnal): per Kukkiwon, the defender crosses the wrists and spreads the hands apart. The Taekwondo Compendium (nbtkda.com) gives it in both poomsae in its low form as sonnal arae hechyeo makgi (Knife Hand Low Opening Block). In Taebaek it appears twice in beom seogi, the first right at the start; per the Compendium, in the starting position the fingertips are at shoulder height and the hand edges point toward the body. Pyongwon begins with it in naranhi seogi: the practitioner draws the left foot in as the hands start to open, over five seconds.
