About
Sonnal geodeureo naeryeo makgi (English: knife hand supporting downward block) is, in Kukkiwon terms, a knife-hand block (sonnal) driven downward (naeryeo), supported by the other hand (geodeureo). Terminology describes geodeureo makgi as a block supported by the other hand, and naeryeo makgi as a block deflecting an attack downward. It differs from sonnal geodeureo bakkat makgi in direction, that one outward. In Taegeuk Chil Jang it appears twice, in the back stance dwit kubi. The Compendium notes the supporting hand starts wrist-high at the philtrum, not the shoulder, and ends at solar-plexus height, fingertips horizontal, not angled as on the blocking hand.
