About

Sonnal an chigi (손날 안치기), in English knife hand inward strike, is in Kukkiwon terminology one of the an chigi strikes: a rotating strike moving outside to inside, here with the edge of the hand (sonnal). An means inward, chigi strike. The same direction is also struck with the bear hand (gomson), the reverse edge of the hand, the hammer fist, or the palm heel; sonnal bakkat chigi instead moves outward. Taekwondo Compendium lists it in Taegeuk Sam Jang, where it appears twice, per Phoenix Taekwondo's photo breakdown in ap seogi. The strike should finish on the side of the neck just below the ear, for most practitioners about nose-tip height.
