About

Sonkal san makgi, in English knife-hand W-shape block, is a block in the shape of the letter W performed with the knifehands (sonkal) in ITF taekwondo; san makgi means W-shape block. It differs from the block bakat palmok san makgi, which the ITF Taekwon-Do Australia overview lists as a W-shape block with the outer forearm, in what blocks. The Czech ITF Taekwon-Do Union's grading syllabus gives it in the sequence gunnun so sonkal san makgi. In the tul Choi-Yong it is, according to the dotaekwondo.net breakdown, the 23rd and 26th movement. In movement 23 the practitioner moves the right and then the left leg, turns counterclockwise and takes the left gunnun sogi stance, in movement 26 moves the right leg into the right gunnun sogi stance. The Slovak breakdown calls both movements gunnun sogi sonkal san makgi.
