About
Sonkal nopunde yop makgi, literally knife-hand high side block, is in ITF taekwondo a block with the knife hand (sonkal) at the high level (nopunde) to the side (yop). From the block sonkal dung yop makgi, which the New Zealand ITKD manual lists as a side block with the ridge hand, it differs by what performs the block. In the tul Moon-Moo it is, per the dotaekwondo.net breakdown, the 33rd and 42nd movement, both in a walking stance (gunnun sogi) with the same hand as the front leg; in movements 9 and 18 the breakdown pairs it with a low side block of the other hand in a one-legged stance. In the tul So-San it is the 5th and 7th movement, in Sam-Il the 3rd movement; the Slovak ITF breakdown lists them with the mark bandae (reverse).
