About
Sonkal dung yop makgi, in English reverse knifehand side block, is a side block with the reverse knifehand (sonkal dung) in ITF taekwondo; yop means side. The International Taekwon-Do New Zealand manual lists it among the blocks for colour belts. In the tul Tong-Il it is, according to the dotaekwondo.net breakdown, the 12th and 13th movement, both in the right gunnun sogi stance and in slow motion: in movement 12 the right hand blocks at high level (nopunde), in the 13th the left at middle level (kaunde). The Slovak breakdown calls them nopunde baro yop makgi and kaunde bandae yop makgi. In the tul Yoo-Sin the Slovak breakdown gives it as the 39th movement, niunja sogi sonkal dung nopunde yop makgi, that is with the L-stance; the dotaekwondo.net breakdown describes this movement only as a high block with the left reverse knifehand.
