About

Quinte is the fifth parry of modern sport fencing, one of the numbered standard parries that the rules provide for in foil, épée and sabre. In foil and épée it covers with the weapon high and inside, the wrist in pronation. In sabre the blade is held almost horizontally with the arm bent, edge upward and forward. Unlike the other parries, quinte is bound chiefly to sabre: there it protects the head and stops a cut to the head, and for that reason it is commonly used. In foil and épée, by contrast, it is rare and almost never used. Who introduced this parry into fencing terminology, we have not been able to document.
