About

Pyojeok an chagi (표적 안 차기), in English target inward kick, combines two entries of Kukkiwon terminology. Pyojeok chagi (target kick) is a kick into a target formed by an open palm; in poomsae, the target is shown with one's own hand and struck with an chagi. An chagi is a kick moving outside to inside with the foot's inner edge, knee pointing up. Pyojeok means target. Taekwondo Compendium lists it in Taegeuk Chil Jang; per Phoenix Taekwondo's photo breakdown it appears twice, from ap seogi after deungjumeok bakkat chigi. The Compendium calls for opening the palm only at the last moment, aiming both palm and kick forward, without turning the chest toward the kick; if the hips overturn, the foot would hit the palm flat instead of with the inner edge.
