Quick Facts
About
Pu bu (仆步) is a low stance of Chinese wushu, which a source lists as another name for the stance fu hu bu (伏虎步), literally the tiger-taming stance. The practitioner squats on one leg until the thigh is parallel to the ground and extends the other leg to the side; both feet remain parallel and point forward. According to the source, fu hu bu got its name from the warrior Wu Song, who used this stance to kill a leaping tiger during the Song dynasty. It is used as a defensive stance against high or leaping kicks. It differs from the squat stance tun bu in that, in tun bu, the extended leg touches the ground only with the heel and the foot points forward. Fu hu bu is one of the five basic stances of contemporary sport wushu, as established by the People's Republic of China.
