About

Palgup ollyeo chigi (English: elbow upward strike) is, in Kukkiwon terms, an elbow strike (palgup) driven vertically upward; ollyeo chigi means a strike moving from a lower level to a higher one. It differs from palgup naeryeo chigi in direction, downward. In Pyongwon, the Phoenix Taekwondo photo breakdown captures it once, in the front stance ap kubi. The Compendium also calls it, for this form, an elbow uppercut, noting the torso turns 30° over the front leg so the elbow tip sits on the centerline and the strike ends under the chin.
