About

Molinetto is an Italian fencing term for a circular rotation of the blade. A glossary of Italian fencing terms gives it tersely as "a certain rotational cut," adding no further description of execution. Molinetto belongs to the terminology of the Italian, particularly Bolognese, fencing tradition, and is also used in HEMA reconstructions. In the glossary it stands alongside other Bolognese and rapier terms, such as the cuts mandritto, riverso, and fendente. We have not been able to document the literal meaning of the name, the exact path of the blade, or the master with whom the term first appears.
