About
Mejumeok bakkat chigi (English: hammer fist outward strike) is, in Kukkiwon terms, a strike with the hammer fist (mejumeok), the outer edge of the fist, to the outer side of the target; bakkat chigi means a strike to the target's outer side. It differs from mejumeok an chigi in direction, which aims inward. In the poomsae it comes with the side kick yeop chagi: twice in Taegeuk Oh Jang, in the front stance ap kubi, twice in Taebaek, and once in Pyongwon. For Taegeuk Oh Jang, the Compendium notes the arms move from the raised block to the strike's start already as the kick is chambered, the striking arm travels alongside the kick, and the drawing hand goes to the hip.
