Mandritto is a cut led from the fencer's right side. A glossary of Italian fencing terms describes it as a descending diagonal cut along the line from ear to knee. The term is documented in the Bolognese fencing treatises of the 16th century, among others in Manciolino's Opera Nova, and belongs to the basic strikes of the Bolognese school in both Manciolino and Marozzo. Today it is also part of HEMA reconstructions. Mandritto forms a pair with riverso: in Manciolino both are basic diagonal cuts, differing only in the side from which they are led, mandritto from the right, riverso from the left. We have not been able to document the literal meaning of the name.
