About
Kyocha sonkal chookyo makgi, literally rising block with crossed knife-hands, is in ITF Taekwondo a rising block (chookyo makgi) with the knife-hands (sonkal) crossed into an X shape (kyocha). It differs from the block kyocha sonkal kaunde makgi, which ITF Taekwondo terminology lists as X knifehand middle block, in that chookyo means rising, whereas kaunde means middle level. Per the breakdowns of both dotaekwondo.net and taekwondo.sk, it is movement 21 and 26 in the tul Yoo-Sin, movement 3 in Ul-Ji, and movement 41 and 49 in So-San. In all five movements it is performed in a walking stance (gunnun sogi); in Yoo-Sin and Ul-Ji, dotaekwondo.net describes it as a movement that flows directly on from the preceding one.
