Quick Facts
About
Keiko uchi (鶏口打ち), literally chicken-beak strike, is delivered with a hand whose fingertips clench together into the shape of a bird's beak. Karate sources describe the beak strike as a short-range pecking motion aimed at the throat, ear, temple or eyes; Chinese martial arts know a similar strike under the name crane beak. The Kyokushin organization KWF lists keiko uchi as item number 53 on its list of hand strikes and teaches it only at 1. kjú. It is not used in Kyokushin's full-contact kumite, because the rules of most organizations ban hand and elbow strikes to the head and neck; only kicks to the head and hand strikes to the trunk are permitted.
