About
Hecheo makgi (in English Scattered Block) is, per Kukkiwon terminology, a block in which the defender crosses both wrists and spreads them apart to the sides; Kukkiwon relates it to an attack by two opponents from opposite sides and gives both the inner and outer wrist as blocking surfaces. The Taekwondo Compendium (nbtkda.com) uses the spelling hechyeo makgi, in English Opening Block, and links it to being grabbed by the shoulders, chest or neck. In Taegeuk Yook Jang and Keumgang it is performed at the low level (arae hechyeo makgi) in the naranhi seogi stance; in Taegeuk Yook Jang, per the Taekwondo Compendium, the hands open for five seconds and end near mid-thigh with the arms at roughly 40°. In Taegeuk Chil Jang it appears twice at the middle level (momtong hechyeo makgi) with the outer forearm, in the ap kubi stance.
