About
Eku shomen uchi is a direct head strike delivered with the eku, the oar. The NKKF kobudo curriculum lists it among the basic techniques (kihon) of this weapon under the English name head strike. The technique is required for the shodan (1st dan) exam in kobudo, where the candidate must show bunkai, practical applications, with both hands. We have not been able to document exactly how the strike is performed or who introduced the technique.
