About

Batangson ap chigi (바탕손 앞치기), in English palm heel forward strike, is in Kukkiwon terminology one of the ap chigi strikes (forward strike). With the palm heel (batangson) the strike goes straight at the throat or chest, whereas with the back fist ap chigi arcs at the nose or below. The forward palm heel strike also includes jebipum batangson ap chigi, where the other hand blocks upward at the same time. Taekwondo Compendium lists it in Keumgang poomsae as three consecutive attacks; Phoenix Taekwondo's photo breakdown shows them in ap kubi. The arm should be straight as in a fist strike, fingertips turned 45 degrees outward, movements brisk.
