About
Bakkat makgi (English: outward block) is defined by Kukkiwon terminology as a block that deflects an attack outward, from inside the defender's body; bakkat means outward. The Taekwondo Compendium distinguishes momtong bakkat makgi at middle level from eolgul bakkat makgi at face level. In Taegeuk Sah Jang it appears twice, always in the back stance dwit kubi, and the Compendium lists it there as momtong bakkat makgi. In Taegeuk Yook Jang it is more frequent: per the Phoenix Taekwondo photo breakdown, four times in dwit kubi and three times in the front stance ap kubi. For this form the Compendium lists both levels and, for eolgul bakkat makgi, adds that the blocking fist ends at eye height and the arm keeps the same shape as the middle-level block.
